Released in September of 2012 The Perks of Being a Wallflower, which stars Logan Lerman, Emma Watson, and Ezra Miller is a funny, dramatic and very moving tale of three emotionally damaged high school students who band together to create a circle of support and life sustaining friendships. This film supposedly being fiction, comes across not as a high school tale, but as a true story based on real characters, which is why I believe this film hits homes with many people across all ages. Everyone knows high school can be tough for students and The Perks of being a Wallflower defines what life can be like for outcasts who don’t conform to the stereotypical roles that are accepted as “cool or normal” in high school. The question is, how can someone overcome the awkwardness of being labeled abnormal and different from a majority. This film answers that question for the viewers by emphasizing the power of friendship and love and how much it can help someone overcome the obstacles within life. This film is an emotional whirlwind that takes place throughout freshman year for Charlie Kelmeckis “Logan Lerman”, who learns to accept himself with the help of his friends and follow his passion as a writer. I give this film an A+ and recommend it to anyone who wishes to watch a moving, beautifully acted film which discusses serious issues in high school.
