Quentin Tarantino’s at it again with his newest release Django Unchained that could easily be one of his best works since the Jackie Brown/Pulp Fiction days. Django Unchained effortlessly delivers a funny, violent, scary, epic film all thanks to Tarantino’s clever script and exciting bloody shootouts. Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz and Leonardo DiCaprio all deliver Oscar-worthy performances that’ll have you clutching onto each and every line spoken.
Django (Jamie Fox) is a slave who runs into Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz) a bounty hunter, while being transported. Schultz offers Django his freedom in exchange for his help and soon the pair becomes a deadly team of bounty hunters. They track down various criminals while working together. Soon there quest eventually leads to Candyland to save Django’s wife who is a slave Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio). The pair comes up with a plan to save his wife, but they soon realize it wont be as easy as planned.
This revenge film is unlike anything before it. Tarantino successfully joined the Western genre with his witty dialogue and fast-paced storytelling for a film that can only be classified as a Southern. I’ve never seen so much blood get dispersed on-screen before, yet Tarantino almost always knows how to shoot the film without losing focus on the story. Tarantino wisely shoots the film with his trademark comedy and cleverness, while always maintaining a serious tone of drama and emotion. This is all blended together with an interesting choice of songs for the soundtrack and loads and loads of blood and violence, done with practical effects opposed to CGI. It certainly was one of the best movies of 2012 and a must watch film!
